Visitors Enjoyed Kyoto's Historical Festival "Jidai Matsuri"

"Jidai Matsuri" which means era festival in Japanese language took place in Kyoto prefecture on October 22. This festival is one of the three biggest festivals of Kyoto Prefecture. About 2000 people turned up for the festival with clothing from Heian Era to Meiji Era which are between 8th and 18th century. These people walked the main street of Kyoto prefecture in nice Autumn weather as a parade.

Jidai Matsuri has started taking place in 1895 to celebrate Kyoto prefecture to be the capital of the country for 1100 years. Ancient Kyoto was the capital of Japan for a long time till it moved to Tokyo. Jidai Matsuri makes up the biggest festivals of the old capital alongside with Gion festival and Aoi festival. It takes place on October 22 every year.

On the day of the festival, the costumed visitors walked for 4.5-kilo meters from the old imperial palace of Kyoto to Heian Shrine. This numbers of people made up a long queue to walk slowly for the parade. The queue started with people of costumes of Meiji Restoration. Then people walked according to the era of their lives. Nobunaga Oda on the horse appeared then followed by historical personage such as Sei Shonagon and Murasaki Shikibu just like you are going back the actual era of Kyoto.  

Spectators on the street kept taking pictures of the unique festival. The main street of Kyoto attracted many visitors and colorful history picture scroll were enjoyed in reality. A woman who visited all the way from Kobe has spoken to the reporter, "It was my first time to visit Jidai Matsuri. It was very enjoyable and Kimono- the Japanese traditional clothing for woman, that woman in the queue were wearing was very beautiful and caught my eyes."
