Trump Will Review All Agreements with Japan - if Elected

" If elected, President Trump would put all agreements with Japan to review", told the former GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson in an exclusive interview with NHK in New York, April 11. Tough a matter of "if" and not made personally by Donald Trump himself, the remark is nonetheless creating a stir over here, coming in the wake of Trump's earlier reference to the cost of US defense obligations in Japan.

I LOVE YOU ROME, NEW YORK! Thank you for a fabulous afternoon!! Don't forget to VOTE next Tuesday!!

Ben Carson, a world-renown doctor, stood as a GOP candidate and for a while vied with Trump in the presidential race. He bowed out of the race last month and endorsed Trump. In the interview with NHK Carson said Trump is a feasible winner backed up by moderates and even not a few democrats, adding:

"Mr. Trump is aware of the need of shifting his strategy to garner more support for his challenge in the general election in November. He knows he must watch out for his peculiar speech and behaviors and act like a President."

On Trump's foreign policies, Ben Carson remarked:

"Mr. Trump appreciates the need of strengthening alliance with Japan in the Asia-Pacific region in the face of China. He wants to put all agreements with Japan to review to ascertain their validity to both countries. He would least likely to accept such as may be detrimental to the US interests."

The message is clear enough as I read between the lines. But, just how would the US deal with Japan under 'President' Trump? How feasible would Trump be elected President to begin with?

I'm following the presidential campaign state after state and know exactly where Trump stands in the eve of New York. It's a movement, he says, "that's moving more people than the Republican Party can claim" reaching out even for democrats, as Ben Carson put it.

The American people, you are about to face an allegiance test of democracy. Many of us Japanese, I for one, are watching your democracy at work. With 'President' Trump on the horizon, our security counts on how the ball bounces. I'll keep track of the presidential race to see whether the "if" turns out to be an if after all or....(umm). This is Nathan Shiga with all eyes and ears.
