How About "Spin-Formed Lacquered" Beer Tumbler or a Change?
Japan's industrial technology and traditional skill are wed into a marvelous, if not miraculous, piece of work called "Spin-Formed Lacquered" Beer Tumbler.
A Wikipedia data has it that metal spinning, also known as spin forming or spinning or metal turning most commonly, is a metalworking process by which a disc or tube of metal is rotated at high speed and formed into an axially symmetric part.
Now, a gorgeous beer tumbler was made of stainless by this metal spinning and it was polished inside by that notorious Kobayashi Kengyo of Niigata that polished the back of iPod into a glittering mirror AND lacquered by none other than Kiichi Kakinuma, the God's Hand also in Niigata. Out was born the rarest of art pieces, virtually unmarketable on account of enormous amount of time consumed and too high a cost charged.
Then, an idea was brought forward by Sankei Net Shop to take advantage of this prestigious piece of artwork to help activate local industries in Niigata. Metal spinning was commissioned to Aiwa Shibori Kogyo, a cottage industry in Kawasaki run by Tadashi Onami, a 5-year craftsman in metal spinning, his wife Mitsue and son Tomokazu who is the factory foreman. The company is versatile in handling all kinds of metal and their skill is highly recognized. The company was approved one of the Kawasaki Meisters.
Aiwa taking over production of spin-metaled stainless tumblers and local artisans of lacquer ware doing the lacquering, a new lacquered beer tumbler was readied for marketing charmingly named Kintai Reishitsu meaning meta-bodied lacquer ware via Sankei Net Shop.
The beer tumbler (Size L) openly priced at 25,000 yen for large size and lower locally at 17,500 yen.
