Toyota to Develop a Flying Car?

Some sources in the United States are speculating Toyota might go into producing a flying automobile as its US subsidiary applied for a patent for "a stackable wing and methods of morphing the stackable wind". Toyota says the application is only part of many to prepare for future mobility and not every one of them is operational.

The application was filed in March last year by Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America (TEMA). The basic idea is to mount multiple wings on top of the body and stack them when not in use.

In 2014, Toyota filed 1,567 patents, more than any other automakers. Besides eco-friendly hybrid fuel and cell vehicle vehicles, Toyota is tackling researches for developing means of transportation in future generations. This summer the company set up a fund with Mitsui-Sumitomo Bank to invest in next-generation technology and embarked on the study on AI with leading US universities.

How would it be if you can just fly out of a traffic jam? The idea is superb but not innovative as automakers have thought about it off and on without success. In fact, Henry Ford would have made it, had it not for a fatal accident that killed a friend and a co-pilot. He never gave up his idea though, as he declared a few years before his death the world would be sure to see a flying car some definite day in the future.

Any flying object has wings of some sort and a car certainly needs wings to fly, The point then is what to do with the wings when a car flies. That has long been one of the biggest stumbling blocks.

Will Toyota make it? The point is they are on the right track - figuring what to do with the wings.
