Japan Sports Ministry to Resign over Olympic Stadium Problem

The officials who are in charge of building a new National Stadium for the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics have failed to develop an organization team and the responsibility should work towards them.

The third party panel commissioned on Thursday by the Japanese ministry of Sports and Hakubun Shimomura as well as Ichiro Kono must take the responsibility of this problem as they failed to prepare a proper organizational framework for the stadium project. Shimomura revealed he has offered his resignation to Prime Minister on September 25.

The initial cost that can be used to build the stadium was 130 billion yen when international design competition was held to look for a great idea for the new Japanese national stadium.

A Female architect from Iraq, named Zaha Hadid has won the design back in July of the year 2012.  However, the construction company showed the estimated price of 346.2 billion yen if all requests from all associations of sports were fulfilled.

Japan Sports Council has compressed the price by reduction of total area for construction and so on to reduce the price to 162.5 billion yen. However again, in January this year, it was reported that building the designed stadium would cost 308.8 billion yen. This massive rise of price was due to raise in the price of building materials and human expenses. The construction company has reported that construction will not be in the time of as it was scheduled too.

With the guidance of the Japanese ministry of education, Japan Sports Council has decided to spend 252 billion yen for constructing the new national stadium in June this year.  It is 90 billion yen higher than the initial plan and it is extremely expensive compared to Olympic stadiums which were built before. According to the public opinion poll of NHK, 80 % of Japanese population were not convinced with this issue.

July this year, the Japanese Prime Minister, Abe has decided to return the plan to blank. The new construction team will be made with the maximum cost of 155 billion yen with the support of Japan Sports Council and ministry of education.
