Japan Reactivated 2nd Nuclear Power Reactor

By October 17, 2015 at 8:18 pm

Kyushu Electric Power cooperation has reactivated the second nuclear power reactor at its Sendai nuclear power plant in Kagoshima prefecture on October 15.

The prefecture is located at the southwestern part of Japan and far away from Fukushima where the tsunami in 2011 caused a huge disaster. The government promoted the reactivation of the reactor as the country needs to create energy. On the other hands, many Japanese citizens strongly opposed to the reactivation.

In August, Kyushu Electric Power cooperation has reactivated the first reactor under the stricter safety standards controlled by the country. The system is now fully operating and seems to have no problem. Therefore, this reactor has become the second one to be in online since the disaster caused by Tsunami back in 2011.

It has been four years since this reactor stopped operating. It is estimated that the reactor will start generating electricity on the 21st of the month which is in one week after the beginning of the operation.

According to Kyushu Electric Power cooperation, the output will be increased slowly to control the adjustment. Safety check and inspection for the Protective device has been done too.

However, citizens are strongly against the reactivation on nuclear power plant. About 100 citizens turned up to the protesting demo from 8 a.m. to fight against the reactivation. Many of them had placards and banners with phrases such as "Do not turn on the switch!" and "Nuclear power plant will darken our lives."

55 years old freelance writer, Koji Kubota told Mainichi Shimbun "Nuclear power plant is something which should never exist in this world."

58 years old general secretary of the against nuclear power committee, Yoshitaka Mukohara said to Mainichi Shimbun "How can Japan be tattered for the sake of Kyushu Electric Power cooperation making money. I will keep on fighting until there will be no nuclear power plants in Japan."

The second reactor will be inspected by the Japanese government to make sure that the operation is safe. The reactor will be in full operation only after that.
