Flesby - a Car that Inflates Itself Like an Airbag

By November 1, 2015 at 8:06 pm

The age of automotive cars just around the corner, Tokyo Motor Show 2015 is staging numerous unique ideas. The Uniquest of all is this roundish, fluffy-looking future vehicle aptly named "Flesby".

Flesby has in mind the year 2030 or thereabouts. It's a product of Toyoda Gosei Co.,Ltd., a spinoff of Toyota Motor geared for airbags, a 2WD for one passenger conceived as a vehicle of ultra-small mobility.

Flesby inflates like a balloon as it collides with a passer-by to absorb shock. A normal airbag never restores it shape once inflated, but Flesby does restore its original shape.

LED is built in its body to arouse attention and indicate direction. It shape changes while cruising on the highway to minimize air resistance and thereby to improve mileage.

In the press interview October 29 President Naoki Miyazaki of Toyoda Gosei commented:

"Flesby is a concept car solely for the purpose of reducing traffic accidents. The day is near at hand when automotive vehicles practically reduce or nullify head-on crashes. But for a while there all types of mobility will cohabit on the road, and a car like Flesby should help reduce traffic accidents".

Flesby preconceives an era of automotive vehicles. For average laymen, this concept of "man-free" automobiles remind as much a gay world of comfort as a doomed world of risks. As President Miyazaki naively mentions in his comment all types of mobility will share the road still for some time yet.

People are by nature funny and inquisitive. All of us are curious just how it will be when vehicles on the road are all automotive. What are we to do with auto insurance? In fact, Is auto insurance a necessity? Oh, beg your pardon, there shouldn't be any accident, should there, in era of automotive vehicles.

Flesby - a cool car that allures to a world of fantasy.
