An Official 89-Language Website in Tokyo
All foreign tourists know why they have picked Japan to visit - food is superb, scenery breathtaking, the people are hospitable and above all it's safe and secure....yet, the one only drawback is language. Yes, Japan is super in every way but her language is damned hard to master. Donald Keene is infinitely rare.
Now, Japan is to host the Olympics for the second time in history. The main stadium will be built anew and transportation networks upgraded, etc. ready to make the historic sports event a grand success. Then, the bottleneck issue is back again - the language barrier.
Tokyo's sightseeing key area, Asakusa, has its own idea to help lessen the burden. Taito Ward where Asakusa is located has renewed its official Website to substantially upgraded its contents. Whereas the ward's website has so far provided language assistance in three key languages, that is, English, Chinese and Korean, the upgraded version now offer language assistance in as many as 89 languages, now including French, Thai, Tagalog (Philippines), Swahili, etc. available through automatic translation functions.
The ward officials say Taito Ward beats other wards in the total number of foreign languages supported on websites in an effort to promote the ward's charms to visiting foreign tourists on the occasion of the Olympics and Paralympics in 2020.
A few remarks may be due before, though. Language support here is mechanically offered - meaning it's via a machine language service that may not guarantee the contents to be correct. The idea is for you to have an outline of information you require. Don't you underestimate, though, what a machine language service can do, when you are at loss which way to go.
Much as thankful to Taito Ward's efforts in language service, the desk wonders if a tourist from Malta would ever visit to appreciate the Malti language service?
