Coffee Checks Liver Cancer: Honestly?
I'm Nathan Shiga and here to write anything on Japan and what's happening day to day for those of your friends of Japan. Today, it's about coffee and cancer and a recent report on how effective is one to the other - coffee to cancer naturally.
Ms. Shizuka Sasazuki, head of Dept. of Research on Society and Health Recearch Center, National Cancer Center, came up with a survey to show that coffee probably controls liver cancer for sure and possibly endometrial cancer.
The National Cancer Center started a comprehensive cancer survey in 1990 known as Cohort Study, after ancient Roman soldiers, comprising a total of 140 thousand common residents in Iwate, Nagano, Tokyo, Okinawa, Osaka, Kochi, etc. passing certain set criteria.
The National Cancer Center introduces in its homepage the findings of the survey, says Ms. Sasazaki. Asked specifically on the interrelationship of coffee and cancer, she comments:
"So far we have publicized data on the effect of coffee over liver cancer, endometrial cancer, colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer - each at different degree of probability. We say coffee probably reduces the risk of liver cancer, while possibly reduces the risk of endometrial cancer."
Asked if coffee drinkers are less likely to develop liver cancer, Ms. Sasazaki admits the Cohort Studies over the years do testify to that effect. She elaborates:
"It is highly likely that those who drink coffee daily are 50% less likely to develop liver cancer than non-coffee drinkers. In fact, the more the consumption, the less the risk."
Apart from liver cancer, the data suggest that those who drinks 3-4 cups of coffee daily are 40% less likely to die of heart disease. cerebrovascular disease, and respiratory illness.
Come to think of it, I ought be drinking more coffee, now that coffee helps that much - cancerwise.
