Another "Nadeshiko" on the Go
It's good to top others in whatever you do, and our girls, Nadeshikos I mean, must feel the same way. Welcome to another episode on what's happening in/on/to Japan. I'm your navigator, Nathan Shiga.
You remember I've told you about two Nadeshikos in recent episodes: Sara Takanashi in ski jumping and Rikako Ike-e in swimming. Now, I have yet another Nadeshikos to tell you about: Curling Nadeshikos, "LS Kitami", women's curling team from Hokkaido.
LS Kitami, currently ranking 9th in the women's curling, outplayed the Russians yesterday, March 20, 6-1 in the elimination round, registering third win in the first three matches.
The top 12 teams are taking part in the world championships including such leading teams as Canada and Switzerland. The round robin elimination league will pick top four teams to proceed to the playoff.
In the third match of the elimination league Japan faced Russians. Nadeshikos scored 2 points in the 2nd end and added 4 more in the 5th end, leading the first half 4-1. In the 6th and 7th ends, the Skip Satsuki Fujisawa marked sharp shots to succeed in stealing for 2 points. The Russians gave up in the middle of the 9th end.
Satsuki Fujisawa commented:
"We are doing pretty well communicating in details and concentrated in making shots. We'll refresh our minds to challenge upcoming matches."
Of the 10 teams eligible for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, 7 are to be screened by the total points given by the order of ranking after the world championships this and next years.
LS Kitami had won two previous matches with Finland and Italy in good style by 7-5 and 10-3, respectively.
So, we now have three Nadeshikos to boast of. Nadeshiko is a symbol of tenderness - the tenderness of Japanese women. Well, they are not just tender but dashing.
Good show, Nadeshiko.
