Gracenote Predicts Japan 14 Golds at Rio
A month to go before the opening of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, US Data firm Gracenote bared July 6 their predictions on all medals won in all events at Rio. Gracenote figures Japan will outperform London with 14 gold medals, twice as many, and 38 with all other medals included, base on a comprehensive analysis of the latest performances of the Japanese athletes.

Four of the gold medals are accredited to gymnastics - 3 by Kohei Uchimura in team and individual all-round and horizontal bar and Kenzo Shirai in floor exercises.
In Judo, Naohisa Takato will win a gold medal in 60-kg division, followed by Takanori Nagase in 81-kg division and Baker Mashu in 0-kg division to a total of three.
In women's wrestling, Gracenote predicts 3 gold medals by Saori Yoshida in 53-kg division, Kaori Icho in 58-kg division and Tosaka Eri in 48-kg division - also to a total of 3 gold medals.
In swimming, Kosuke Hagino is predicted to reign in 400-m individual medley, Natsumi Hoshi will win her gold medal in women's 200-m butterfly.
In Men's fencing, Yuki Ota will reign; women's badminton doubles-pair Reika Takahashi and Misaki Matsutmo will clinch gold medals, predicts Gracenote.
Meanwhile, Michael Fred Phelps and Simone Biles of US will grab 4 gold medals each in swimming and women's gymnastics, respectively, for the first time at Rio, says Gracenote. Usain St. Leo Bolt will win in 200-m but lose to Justin Gatlin in 100-m, predicts Gracenote.
By region, the US will top with 41 followed by China with 31. Russia with no participation in athletic sports places 3rd with 20, according to Gracenote. Considering Russia's participation in individual capacity, Gracenote predicts Russia to lose 6 gold medals due to doping.
