One of the world's most notorious game exhibitions "Tokyo Game Show" opened September 15 to feature cutting-edge devices and software to realize the ultimate in virtual reality technology.

The Tokyo Game Show 2016 at the Makuhari Messe is participated by some 600 home and overseas manufacturers and highlights virtual reality devices to experience touring in the world of virtual reality through goggle-type gadgets.

Sony exhibits 50 or so VR apparatuses, ready to ship next month, to virtually demonstrate underwater swimming, chatting with characters, etc.

Taiwan's smart phone manufacturer HTC which marketed its own VR devices last April joined other overseas manufacturers to participate in the gaming expo.

VR technology is finding its ways apart from gaming into medical applications, vocational training, etc. and its market is expected to treble by 2025 up to 800 billion yen. International competition is likely to grow harsher as years go by.

The Tokyo Game Show 2016 is open on September 15-16 for the related parties and opens for the public for two days thereafter - September 17-18.

Hiroshi Tamaoki, head of HTC's Tokyo office, comments:

"We believe VR is sure to change the course of life and business for years on. Gaming is just the door; the technology will reach far into the worlds of auto designing, architecture, medicine and a broad range of industrial applications.

"We are eager to be party to VR's mission to support industries."

I might mention just for the record that the Tokyo Game Show or TGS is a popular video game expo/convention opened annually In September. Initiated on August 1996, the gaming expo focuses on games developed in Japan, and often international game developers avail themselves of its facilities. (Nathan Shiga)
