Princess Mako to Wed ICU Classmate
A delightful news flashed across the nation yesterday as the first daughter of Thier Highnesses Fumihito and Kiko of Akishinonomiya, Princess Mako, has found her husband in the person of the commoner Mr. Kei Komuro of Yokohama - ex-classmate at International Christian University. Their wedding is scheduled for next year.
Mr. Kei Komuro, 25, studied at the International School and was active in tourist campaigns all over Japan as "2010 Marine Prince of Shonan Enoshima" under the auspices of Fujisawa's tourist association.
Princess Mako is aged 25 born in March 1991 and after graduating ICU studied in the UK majoring in natural history. After her return, Princess Mako busied herself discharging her official functions - honorary president of the Japan Tennis Association, goodwill visits abroad, etc. Since last year, she works three days a week at a Marunouchi institute as a member of Tokyo University's natural history museum.
The couple met an opinion-exchanging get together at a Shibuya restaurant five years ago. They have dated since then in the heart and suburbs of Tokyo several times a month.
Princess Mako introduced Mr. Komuro to her parents, prior to their association. His father had mediated her sister Kiyoko Kuroda and her husband Yoshiki Kuroda. The couple had offered time and effort to coach Princess Mako and Mr. Komuro as to what awaits ahead of their scheduled wedding next year.
The Imperial Agency says the news has already been passed on to His Majesty the Emperor and Her Majesty Empress Michiko.
Princess Mako is the first granddaughter of Thier Majesties - named Mako after the letter "Ma" meaning natural, "as it is", etc. symboling her parents' wish for a natural, plain life they wish her to lead. (Nathan Shiga)
