Ghost in the Shell Turned into Ukiyo-E
The ukiyo-e themed by "Ghost in the Shell" will be produced and be sold as "Ghost in the Shell Ukiyo-E Series".
Vol.1's theme is "Ghost in the Shell (1995)", whose original painting is produced by Hiroyuki Okiura. Okiura was in charge of character design, animation directing and original painting of the movie.
"Ghost in the Shell Ukiyo-E Series", which is painted with Japanese traditional technique, is entirely handmade. The pictures are painted with the traditional technique like "Hori(carving the original pictures on woodblocks)" and "Suri(coloring the woodblocks and printing them on pieces of paper)", which are the features of Ukiyoe. "Tesuki Hosho Washi (handmade Japanese paper)" is used for the paper.
Movie "Ghost in the Shell" was released in 1995 and still has deep-rooted popularity. The movie was acclaimed also abroad and became a trigger for the "Ghost in the Shell" to be popular worldwide. Okiura, who produced the original paintings, is known as a director of "JIN-ROH" and "Momo e no tegami (A Letter to Momo)". He is one of the leading authority on Japanese animation industry.
The ukiyo-e prints is available to pre-order from September 2, and the price is 43,200 yen. The prints are limited to only 300 copies and on sale at onlineshop "OtakuWorks Shop". You can order from outside Japan too.
The 2nd print is already planned and will be exclusively designed by Kazuchika Kise, who is a general director of "Ghost in the Shell: The Movie" released on June, 2015. The design will be released soon.
