Sony Global Education is hosting a global mathematics competition entitled "The 2nd Global Math Challenge" on September 27, in which people from all over the world can participate online.

Anyone with an Internet connection can participate in this mental challenge, which encourages people to have "a test with fun while using their brains." This time, the test will be held simultaneously around the world, and can be taken in Japanese, English and Chinese. Pre-registered participants have already exceeded 50,000 people, making this the largest mathematics competition in the world.

The test is comprised of a number of questions which were carefully selected to test the participants' thinking ability. There will be 9 different courses based on their age from first grade, middle class, high school and also adults. participants can choose a course based on either their school year or skill level.

This year's competition, in addition to having an individual registration, will allow for school or cram school groups to register officially for the fist time. When a teacher registers an account, IDs and passwords will be generated for each student. It is possible for these groups to designate any day for the test so long as it is up to 2 weeks prior to the competition.

Also, the Global Math Challenge will have its first public contest at Saitama University on September 20. In addition to the Global Math Challenge, there will also be free workshops and arithmetic-related discussion panels.

The Global Math Challenge offers a Trial Plan free of charge, as well as a paid Standard Plan. Up to four people can sign up using one Standard Plan account. After the test, Standard Plan users will be able to access illustrated answers for the questions as well as an analysis of their thought-processes. They will also receive a special digital question booklet. Trial Plan users will still be able to confirm their scores and global rankings.

Sony's Global Math Challenge is a part of their educational services which aim to cultivate fundamental thinking skills related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) for all age groups. Beginning now, by hosting the competition biennially, they hope to increase the number of participating countries, schools and organizations, and to contribute to the education industry on a global level.
