Small Tsunami hit Japanese coasts, No harm Recorded

Tsunami of up to 80 centimeters reached the Pacific coastline of the Japanese archipelago Friday morning after a powerful earthquake from the coast of central Chile, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The Wednesday's earthquake of Chile triggered this tidal waves and traveled all the way to Japan.  There have been no reports of casualties or damage from the tidal waves in Japan, and the weather agency lifted all of its tsunami alerts at 4.40 PM on Thursday.

A tidal wave of 80 cm was observed at Iwate prefecture at 9:38 AM on Thursday and 50 cm in Hokkaido at 10:08 AM, while  40 cm wave was seen in Ibaraki Prefecture at 10:59 AM. Waves up to 30 cm reached other parts of northeastern and eastern Japan.  In Okinawa, 20 cm of tidal wave hit were recorded. The Meteorological Agency were warning not to get close to anywhere near the sea or any river as it can be dangerous if the water level rises rapidly.

The Meteorological Agency has lifted the warning call after 13 hours.  They reported that the tsunami waves will no longer dangerous as it will keep getting small. Evacuation instruction and recommendation were released for 51 cities of 15 prefectures including Iwate, Shizuoka, Chiba and Okinawa prefectures.  Tidal waves recorded at 68 wave checking point throughout in Japan. There are over 60 thousand citizens living in these prefectures all together.

Maximum of 1 meter of tidal waves were expected, but it seems like this tsunami is over.  Since the tidal waves will keep on decreasing in size and no harm were reported, warning call were lifted peacefully.
