By September 21, 2015 at 11:50 am

The number of individuals aged 80 or more reached 10 million for the very first time in Japan. This is a record by modern country and may cause many issues for the country. The information was released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on Sunday in concert with the day to respect for the aged in Japan. This means that 7.9 percents of the whole Japanese population are over 80 years of age. The number rose by 380,000 from a year before to 10.02 million.

The number of people aged 65 or older grew to a record of 33.84 million, or 26.7 percent of the total. They included 14.62 million men, representing 23.7 percent of the total population of men, and 19.21 million women, or 29.5 percent of all women.

The proportion of the elderly people with jobs is now at 29.3 percent for men and 14.3 percent for women. Of those aged from 65 to 69, 50.5 percent of men and 30.5 percent of women have jobs. The number of people aged over 65 with jobs has increased 11 years in a row.

Increased in the population of aged is happening in most of the developed countries. It is a great thing that science and medical department keep on developing with better facilities for elders. Human's life expectancy has improved incredibly. However, it creates the decrease in the proportion of young ones.  Young people are the ones who work for the country. These are many issues raised and discussed by increasing aged people's population. Hopefully, the social system will be improved in order to have a greater environment for all the Japanese citizen from young babies to the oldest people.
