2000 People Stood up to Volunteer for Flooded Area in Ibaraki, Japan Using their Silver Week Holiday
More than two thousand people volunteered to help the people from Joso in Ibaraki using their five days holiday of the Japanese silver week. On Sept 10, heavy rain caused Kinugawa river to burst its bank. It flooded many houses and more than two thousand citizens placed at evacuation centers.
People have started arriving in Joso from all over Japan on Saturday. Local government provided free shuttle buses from the train station. 30 big bases were fully occupied by people with warm heart. Volunteers are helping by removing obstacles and mud from the houses so that people can live inside again.
There was a woman who decided to come to volunteer using her 5 days holiday. She said she came to reply what she received back in 2011. When her hometown got hit by huge Tsunami in March 2011, many people from all around the world went to volunteer and she knows how it feels like to be harmed by the natural disaster.
An old citizen spoke that she cannot carry heavy furniture by herself to throw away. However, young boys went to her house to do the job for her and she could hide the appreciation.
Space to place garbage is also a problem for the government. There is so many furniture which were damaged badly from the flood and citizens no longer needs them. Big garages are heavy and take a lot of spaces. Currently, trucks are arriving constantly to take those unneeded furniture and garbage.
