5 New Sports Proposed for 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games decided to propose the addition of five sports to the 2020 Tokyo Games. Executive board members meeting was held on Monday and baseball, softball, Karate, Skateboarding and Surfing to be considered as new Olympic sports from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic.

Under the Olympic Agenda 2020 program adopted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last year, host cities are now allowed to propose one or more sports to be added for their games. Currently, there are 28 sports already on the program and it has been decided that another 5 sports will be on the list too after confirmation from the IOC.

Baseball is one of the most popular sports in Japan loved from a long time ago. Therefore, there are many top quality baseball stadiums and facilities all over Japan. Baseball stadiums and facilities can be also used for softball as well. So there is no need for Olympic committee to pump in a huge amount of money to build stadiums and facilities for the newly added sports. Japanese Olympic Committee will be speaking to IOC to convince them the advantages of adding baseball and softball. Since baseball is a very popular sports, the addition of baseball will bring cash flow into Olympic committee by being able to sell the rights to broadcast.

Qualifying rounds of the newly going to be added games should he held at cities such as Fukushima where Tsunami disasters harmed many numbers. Many of people at Fukushima is still trying to get their life back to usual and Olympic games can encourage them as well as attracting attentions from around the world.

On the other hand of the smiles of newly going to be added sports of Olympic, there are sports which were disqualified as well. Bowling and Squash were under discussion for the proposal to the IOC together with other five sports accounted. However, bowling, squash and some other sports were not accepted by executive board members in Japan.

Japanese citizen has been disappointed with the Japan Olympic committee due to the problem caused by stealing the idea of the emblem and unplanned stadium construction issue. This addition of baseball and other sports to Olympic games is a positive news about 2020 Tokyo Olympic that many people were looking for.
