No Sex Allowed with HighTech Robot Pepper
Japanese communication giant SoftBank has felt the need to remind customers who purchase the robots not to have sex with the robot they purchased.
The company sells a robot unit named Pepper in Japan. The price of the latest high-tech robot is 198 thousand yen (around 1.6 thousand USD). Pepper is able to read people's emotion and able to do many things for the owner. Even though the price is fairly high, 3000 robots were completely sold out within the first minute of the release.
SoftBank has released the state of user agreement to remain all the users to guide the right use of the high-tech robot. The policy says, "Users are not allowed to use Pepper for sexual behaviour." On Twitter, some users are saying "I read and fully understood the statement as "Users are not allowed to use Pepper to have sex with another human being.""
The ban on sex with the plastic machine which is just 120 cm tall and moves on rollers caught many people's attention and fired up social media in Japan regarding the ban and statement.
Robot ethics specialists have started campaigns to call the ban of having sexual activities with robots in September. The creator of this campaign says that "Robot is a thing no matter how much it can be developed. If a person starts considering woman or children as a thing, this can cause another kind of problems such as rape and child pornography. This is because woman and children tend to be in weaker in term of power relation."
On the other side of this campaign, the company named True Companion is developing robots which you can have sex with. Robots named Roxxxy for female robots and Rocky for male robots are always ready for you to sleep with and able to have a conversation. These robots will be released at the end of the year.
There is a question, what will happen if a user breaks the rule and have sex with Pepper. Nobody would be able to find out the truth and what kind of punishment will offender has to face.
