"My Number" Notification Starting in Japan, Many Might End up Undelivered
"My Number" system will be in operation from January of next year in Japan. This service will be closely linked to social security and tax payment.
Before the starting of this system, notification card with a 12-digit identification number will be sent to everyone residing in the nation. The cards will be set to be delivered to 52 million households nationwide by simplified registered mail on October 5. It will be sent to addresses that people have registered in the residence registry.
However, there are numbers of issues and concerns regarding the start of the new Japanese system as well as the delivery of the identification number. These notification cards can be exchanged with "My Number card" with free of cost in January if a person wants to. There will be a picture of you on My Number card too.
It has been reported that delivery of these notification cards will have to face a difficulty. One of the reasons is simply because of the person were not at home at the time of delivery. Another reason is that a person might not be living in the address which they have given to the Japanese government.
In the City of Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, it is estimated that maximum of 56 thousand households will not be able to receive the mail sent by the government. This is 20% of the whole population of the city. Therefore, City of Funabashi will have to be able to manage over 5 thousand notifications in safe until all notifications will be in hands of individuals. The city is renovation one of the unused night clinic into an exclusive room with security to keep the notifications. The Japanese government is calling Japanese citizen to make sure that the living address is updated with the government.
On the other hand of the movement of the government, there are people who are strongly against the new system of My Number. A group of people who support the victims of domestic violence are concerning security and privacy of victims. My Number will be linked with the address of individuals and if a fault perpetrator finds the number, the victim might have to face domestic violence again just because of that.
The security and usage of the coming My Number system are under doubt.
