Tokyo Ranked 4th Best City in The World
Tokyo has ranked 4th best city of the world in the Global Power City Index 2015. The ranking was released on Wednesday by the Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation and it is eight years in a row that Tokyo is ranked at 4th. Every year, the evaluation is made for 40 major cities worldwide and ranked according to the total figure created precisely.
London is the world best-ranked cities and the second is New York followed by Paris on the third. There was no huge movement for the top countries, but the difference between London and New York to became larger as London keeps earning points after Olympic games in 2012.
The ranking was created by evaluation in 6 different categories. "Economy", "Research and Development", "Cultural exchange", "Residence", "Environment" and "Transportation and Access" are the six factors that have been evaluated Synthetically.
Tokyo has remained at the top for "Economy". In a category of "Research and Development", Tokyo was ranked 2nd as there are the great number of Patent from the city. However, there is big difference between the top three cities in categories of "Transportation and Access" and "Cultural exchange". The number of direct international flight to other cities and number of hotels are insufficient compared to the top three cities. These two areas have to be improved if Tokyo wants to raise the ranking.
Even though Tokyo is still little far away to be the top of the ranking, it is still the best within Asian countries. Singapore was placed at 5th place to be 2nd best city in Asia. Hong Kong were ranked 9th last year but raised the rank to the 7th this year. Chinese cities went down as the economy is not as influenced as it was last year, Shanghai went down to 17th from 15th and Beijing from 14th to 18th. Within Japan, Osaka ranked better than last year moving up from 26th to 24th and Fukuoka from 36th to 35th.
